Poem: Mailbox and Postage Lament

I long
for the days
of hand written
letters,
and Hallmark
drug store
reminders,
that someone
out there
is thinking of
you -
And you
of them.
Of picture
postcards,
from half
a world away -
Or from along
Route 66.
Of sitting
by the mailbox,
waiting for
a response,
the suspense
almost too much
to bear.
