Poem: Family Vacations - Southern Utah I

Family Vacations -
Southern Utah:
Road trip,
in the back
of a packed
pick up truck.
Pine Valley -
Pitching
the Catepillar tent;
Watermelon
and the Cooler
in the creek;
Hooking a worm
on the shore;
Lighting
the Coleman
Lantern,
as daylight begins
to flicker.
Playing cards
into the wee hours
of the morning.
Cedar Mountain,
Navajo Lake -
A fishing line,
covert
and clandestine,
submerged
in the water;
Engrossed
in a good book.
Cedar Breaks,
Zions,
Bryce Canyon -
Explosion
of color,
asymmetry
of line
and shape.
Weathering
and erosion
tell the tale
of time
and the elements,
inspiring
day hike
exploration.
Escalante -
Hiking
the Devil's Backbone,
panoramic
high desert;
Posey Lake,
forest shoreline,
heavy sky,
spring snow
falling,
the fish
manically biting
in cacophony.
