Poem: August 5th, 2005

Living on borrowed time:
August 5th, 2005 -
Intersection of
104th Avenue
and Colorado Highway 85.
Wide turn;
Intermittent blackouts.
Hemorrhagic Stroke!
Baby blue
Chevy pick up truck
Samaritan.
Divinely appointed,
solitary encounter.
Cell phone -
Call for help.
Swift Paramedic
and Ambulance arrival.
Saved,
by the omnipresent
intervention,
of the Grace of God
and the Miracles
of faith
brought forth,
by a willing heart
and mind.

Poem - Haiku: March 18th, 1996

March 18th, 1996
Abrupt departure
Compromised farewell negotiation

Poem - Haiku: Self exiled

Middle aged recluse
Guarded and private
Self exiled

Poem - Haiku: Whispering Features

Whispering features
Once relevant and beloved
Familiar stranger

Poem - Haiku: My neon hometown

My neon hometown
Endures only in my recollection
Evolutionary costume changes

Poem: It's nothing personal

It's nothing personal,
my silence
and seclusion.
An act of desperation,
born,
of a disintegration
of self trust -
To communicate
without confrontation;
See beyond,
faults
and imperfections;
Recognize,
my own
lack of control,
over opinions
and observations -
Subconsciously
cutting
but benign
in their maliciousness;
Prideful denial,
of the amnesia
of a loser's longing
for acceptance -
Void character,
without,
is not
the source
of my self worth.

Poem: Aurora P.D. +

Shots fired;
Officers dispatched.
Immediate arrival -
No hesitation;
No thought
of self.
Courage
and confusion
at the scene.
Restoring order;
Calming fears.
Protecting lives;
Addressing the wounded.
First responders -
Law enforcement
turned Medics.
The back seats
of Police Cruisers -
Make shift
Ambulances.

Poem: Front Range Colorado Wildfire Firefighter 2012

Firefighter,
facing a wall of flame -
In full gear.
Even with protection,
smoke enters the lungs.
Overwhelming
and arbitrary destruction -
Where to begin?
Standing brave
and unyielding,
in the presence
of a firestorm.
Protecting a home -
Memories and mementos,
captured
and housed,
in its walls.
While another
burns helplessly -
To the ground.
But a foundation remains,
on which to rebuild.
Drenched,
drained
and spent,
the day ends.
On the hard ground -
Sleeping in a tent.

Poem: Linguistic Leslie

Linguistic
Leslie,
with long,
luscious
lavender
locks,
that leap
and linger,
levitates
language.
She
leisurely
and laconically
lampoons
longing
letters
from lying
Lloyd -
lascivious
and libidinous.

Poem: Nosey Nelly

Nosey Nelly
nestled
in her nook
nodding off.
Having nasty
nightmares,
of nocturnal
nasties,
nuancing
naive neighbors,
nabbing,
nearly naked
Nora's
knapsack.

Poem: Mortality and Invincibility

Institutions crumbling -
Pillars of stability,
causing me
to question,
my very own
mortality.
Waking me up
from my suburban
apathy -
Comfortable
and comatose.
Time
runs out
and no one
lives forever.
The invincibility
of youth -
A legend;
A myth.
Folklore
of the nubile
and viral.

Poem: Aurora 58: Survivors in Hope, Selflessness and Defiance

I'm a survivor!
The cacophony
of violence
did not win!
Unhinged cruelty,
answered
with selflessness -
The welfare
and safety
of others,
placed above own.
I stood resolute,
in the midst
of the fear
and despair
of unfolding tragedy.
The moment of violation,
a frozen
and haunting
memory -
a witness,
to inconceivable
depravity.
A deep
and vulnerable scar
remains.
I stand tall,
in defiance,
to the hate
and rage,
of my attacker.
I am slowly healed,
by the love
and support,
within
and without,
that surrounds me -
From faith,
family,
friends
and strangers.
Each day born,
embraced,
with bravery
and courage.
A conviction,
in the worth
and common decency,
of the human soul,
was not lost!
Instead,
fortified.

Poem: TOO DAMN HOT!

It's
TOO DAMN HOT!
Oh yes,
it's
TOO DAMN HOT!
I can feel
the blistering sun
on my hiney!
The blazing heat
makes me
oh so whiney!
Oh yes,
it's
TOO DAMN HOT!

Poem: Aurora 12: An inextinguishable flame

What might have been,
no one will ever know.
The immediate,
unfiltered
and raw response,
to the surreal
brutality
of a deranged mind,
is sadness
and anger.
The soul
cathartically screams,
through tears
and devastation -
Darkness cannot win;
Hope must prevail!
An inextinguishable flame,
of courage
and strength found,
in the faces,
names
and abundant lives
of victims -
Turned Heroes
and Martyrs,
the resilient legacy
of this tragedy.
Remembered,
forever more,
for who they were -
And the lives
they touched.
All rejoicing,
in memories
and memorials,
of days spent,
in laughter
and fellowship -
Figures
of inspiration,
to act in kind.
Reaching out
to those around us -
In love,
in service,
and civility.

Poem: Theatre 9

Theatre 9,
Century 16 -
Aurora, Colorado.
Entering through
an emergency exit,
James Holmes:
Cold blooded madman,
in black,
with a gun arsenal,
tactical ballistic armor,
and wearing a gas mask,
unleashes mayhem -
Releasing tear gas;
Advancing the aisle,
while showering bullets.
A minute
and thirty seconds -
Innocent victims:
Of random
and senseless
violence -
Macabre serendipity.
Survivors:
Hidden -
In the darkness;
On the floor.
Pandemonium
and chaos;
Terrorism encroaches,
on a midnight showing.
Cheerful
and colorful neon -
Sadly,
ironic.

Poem: Mailbox and Postage Lament

I long
for the days
of hand written
letters,
and Hallmark
drug store
reminders,
that someone
out there
is thinking of
you -
And you
of them.
Of picture
postcards,
from half
a world away -
Or from along
Route 66.
Of sitting
by the mailbox,
waiting for
a response,
the suspense
almost too much
to bear.

Poem: Hormonal Revelation

Hormonal revelation,
emanating,
from a pair
of double D's,
housed,
in a modest sweater.
They look,
I mean,
you look,
just like
your picture
on:

Hormonal revelation,
received,
south,
of the Mason-Dixon
line.
My thoughts
are those,
only of purity,
and of Eternal progression.
I'm so happy to be
in Utah County.
What is
your name again?
Do you
have a pulse?
We're meant
to be together!
It has been
revealed,
to me,
we've known
each other,
intimately,
since the preexistence!
Our impending union,
sweeps across time!
Will you marry me?
On one knee,
I place upon
your finger,
my CTR ring.
Is it too soon?
The last
half an hour
together,
has felt
like a lifetime!
Let's get sealed,
this morning,
and get
to making babies,
tonight!

Photo and Gardening: Buds and Blossoms - Purple Petal Perfection

Poem: "Strawberry Shortcake" (D) 71

"Strawberry Shortcake":
Number 71,
Defensewoman.
Overgrown,
"wild and uninhibited",
springy red
curls -
Trapped,
desperately escaping
from under her helmet.
A steely,
emerald gaze;
"Rockem', Sockem'"
hip check,
into the wall.
Assault and battery,
by a freckle faced
terror,
on ice skates.
A lady,
in every sense
of the word.

Poem: Dirty Brunette Hair

Plentiful and strait,
dirty brunette hair,
a weaver's dream,
in a bun -
Loose and bothered.
Feathery lashes,
veil
bedroom
hazel eyes.
Glistening
brown skin,
passionately kissed
by the steamy
Summer heat.
Cheshire smile -
Devilish dimples
on each cheek.
Full figured woman,
curves,
in all
the right places:
voluptuous,
bawdy
and spirited.

Poem: Old Memories and Faded Pictures

Don't fall in love
with old memories
and faded pictures.
Recollections
and remembrances of:
high school crushes
and college romances,
enhanced,
by the forgiving
vision of time.

Poem: Angels in Name and Otherwise

Angels in name
and otherwise -
Fair haired,
translucent muse;
gossamer pixie.
Weightless,
delicate articulation -
Ethereal whispers.
Soft,
gentle eyes -
sympathetic perception.
Manifest in vision -
Pearl
Summer dress
with a wildflower
pattern -
Married,
to lace
and embroidery.
Tranquil caress;
Sunny embrace.
Lingering remembrance.

Poem: The Names Have Been Changed to Protect the Innocent

The names
have been changed
to protect the innocent:
A good friend
once told me,
let's call her
Daisy,
"Don't say
Heck,
if you mean
Hoboken."
"Don't say
Darn,
if you mean
Detroit."
"Don't say
Shoot,
if you mean
Salt Lake City."
"Don't say
Fudge,
Phooey
or Freakin',
if you mean
Fresno,
Fargo
or Fort Collins.
Don't say
Jeez,
if you mean
Jackson Hole."

Poem: Family Vacations - Southern Utah II

Family Vacations -
Southern Utah:
Arches -
Menacing charcoal
clouds,
an ominous
backdrop,
extracting sharpness
and clarity.
A lightening show
commences -
Frenetic flashes,
of nature's
illuminating wonder.
The angry
and volatile horizon -
Alive,
with unharnessed
and quickened energy
and electricity,
animating
the diverse shades
of orange and red,
found in the Entrada
and Navajo Sandstone;
Defining incandescence,
exposing the naked
and vulnerable
sublime features,
of the arches,
fins and towers
of Delicate,
The Organ,
The Fiery Furnace
and Tower of Babel.
Canyonlands -
The sculpting
canyon artistry
of the Colorado
and Green Rivers.
Pulsing muscle current
confluence eventuality.
The boundlessness
of a pastel blue
celestial sphere.
A winding road,
riding amidst
a Martian landscape,
gazing upon
inexhaustible
and austere
canyons,
mesas and buttes:
Island in the Sky,
Cataract and Horseshoe
Canyons;
White Rim
and Mesa Arches;
Cedar Mesa
and Windgate Sandstone.
Limestone accents
and features.
On foot,
to discover
hidden treasures
of veiled grace -
Allusive
desert blooms.
The birth child
of the strained tears
of parched clouds
and hardened
and stony earth.

Poem: Family Vacations - Southern Utah I

Family Vacations -
Southern Utah:
Road trip,
in the back
of a packed
pick up truck.
Pine Valley -
Pitching
the Catepillar tent;
Watermelon
and the Cooler
in the creek;
Hooking a worm
on the shore;
Lighting
the Coleman
Lantern,
as daylight begins
to flicker.
Playing cards
into the wee hours
of the morning.
Cedar Mountain,
Navajo Lake -
A fishing line,
covert
and clandestine,
submerged
in the water;
Engrossed
in a good book.
Cedar Breaks,
Zions,
Bryce Canyon -
Explosion
of color,
asymmetry
of line
and shape.
Weathering
and erosion
tell the tale
of time
and the elements,
inspiring
day hike
exploration.
Escalante -
Hiking
the Devil's Backbone,
panoramic
high desert;
Posey Lake,
forest shoreline,
heavy sky,
spring snow
falling,
the fish
manically biting
in cacophony.
